You know what's a good day? When you can ramble on about werewolves and vampires for HOURS and people enjoy it. THAT is when I knew I had the right friends.

How did you make yours?

Well, it's primarily made of pine wood, that way it's both light and durable. I made it with the help of my friend's father, who lent me his woodshop and took care of the cutting (he takes all the safety equipment off so it's easier to use, but therefore he doesn't let anyone use them). I made very precise measurements based on the blade's height and width compared to those of Leon in the pictures where he's holding it, and glued on the extra pieces of wood, such as the trigger, hammer, barrel, etc. Once it was finished, I coated it several times with Gesso, to have a good clean color for the finished paint and less likely to be dented, and finally spray painted it and lacquered it. Of course I'm missing quite a few steps in there but you get the idea. For a buster sword, especially if you're making it to bring to a convention, it might be better to make it out of craft foam instead of wood. Although pine is a lighter wood, the gunblade still isn't the lightest thing to be carrying around all day. Plus with craft foam, you should achieve a very similar finished effect. Try typing in "buster sword tutorial" in google. It should come up with a ton of cosplay.com tutorials, and you can find the one that suits you.
